Professional Whitewater Coaching

More than a kayaking trip. A week to become a better paddler and experience Costa Rica from the river. Take your kayaking to the next level on the warm tropical rivers of Costa Rica. The Costa Rica Whitewater Skills Week is an 8-day progression experience designed for paddlers of all levels — from someone entering whitewater for the first time to experienced kayakers looking to refine technique, improve decision-making and challenge themselves on more technical rivers. Costa Rica gives us something special: an incredible variety of whitewater within a relatively small area. Depending on experience, water levels and conditions, we can choose from Class I, II, III, IV and advanced river sections, allowing every day to be adapted to the paddlers in the group. You are not locked into one river or one difficulty level. We choose the right water for your skills, your goals and your progression. Train directly with Andrey Coto, a Costa Rican kayaker, instructor, competitor and river explorer with more than 20 years of international whitewater experience. Andrey brings together decades of real-world paddling, international expeditions and competition with professional training as an ACA Level 4 Whitewater Kayak Instructor and ACA Swiftwater Rescue Instructor, along with Wilderness First Responder training. But this week is about much more than certifications. You will learn from someone who has spent his life on rivers — reading water, exploring new places, teaching paddlers and understanding how to help people progress safely and confidently. Throughout the week, we work on the skills that make a complete paddler: efficient strokes, rolling, edging, bracing, ferries, eddy turns, river reading, line selection, rescues, scouting, decision-making and confidence. And the classroom is the river. Every day combines coaching with real river running, giving you the opportunity to learn a skill, understand it and immediately apply it in moving water. Small groups and easy logistics give us the freedom to change rivers, sections and objectives according to the group. If you need more time developing fundamentals, we slow down. If you are ready for more technical whitewater, we progress. Between river days, you will experience another side of Costa Rica — tropical rainforest, wildlife, warm water, local communities, incredible landscapes and the spectacular Arenal Volcano. After days of paddling, recover in the natural hot springs of La Fortuna and enjoy one of the most beautiful adventure regions in the country. This is not a standard kayak tour where you simply follow a guide downstream. It is a week of learning, progression, exploration and adventure. You are not only coming to paddle Costa Rica. You are coming to live Costa Rica with a local paddler, discover its rivers, improve your kayaking and leave with skills and experiences that stay with you long after the trip is over. Beginner to Advanced Whether you are learning your first whitewater skills, building confidence on Class II–III, or looking for technical coaching and more challenging river sections, the week is customized around the group. Different rivers. Different levels. One goal: become a better paddler. Come with the skills you have. Leave a stronger, safer and more confident kayaker.
